Germany, DAF. A 1939 Craftsmen Competition Outstanding Achievement Plaque, with Case, by Hüttenamt Gleiwitz

(Deutsches Arbeitsfront Handwerkerwettkampf Plakette). Constructed of patinated cast iron, the obverse bearing a central hammer overlaid by a Deutsches Arbeitsfront (German Labour Front/DAF) insignia, in turn situated within a cluster of oak leaves and flanked by a date of “1939”, circumscribed by an inscription of “HANDWERKERWETTKAMPF / FÜR HERVORRAGENDE LEISTUNGEN” (“CRAFTSMEN COMPETITION / FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS”), the reverse affixed with a loop for suspension and maker marked with the logos of Hüttenamt Gleiwitz, measuring 14 cm (w) x 15 cm (h), accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a pressed card stock frame with a faux red leather exterior liner, the interior featuring a dark blue velvet medal bed with a fitted frame in which to situate the plaque, unmarked, measuring 17.5 cm (w) x 18.5 cm (l) x 2 cm (h), demonstrating minor material fatigue to the case, in overall extremely fine condition.
