Description
Description
(M1921 Reichsmarine Offiziersdolch). A well-preserved Reichsmarine Model 1921 Officer’s dress dagger, measuring 39.5 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 21 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains some factory-original sharpening to the edges and tip. The blade sits securely within a gilded brass crossguard, which bears double-sided central fouled anchors, with an intact buffer pad covering the seam. Inset into the obverse of the crossguard is a functional push-button release connecting to a clip white emanates from the ricasso to release the scabbard lock. A single piece of ribbed and blackened horn composes the handle grip, with the ribbing retaining an original twisted and rolled wire cord. The dagger culminates in a gilded brass pommel which consists of a ball of flames, screwing in to maintain the dagger structural integrity. Accompanying the dagger is its original scabbard, constructed of a gilded brass shaft with etched imagery distributed around the outer circumference. Two integral rope rings are situated just below the throat, both retaining loops for the accommodation of a hanger. The throat also retains a functional catch to lock onto the blade’s clip. Unmarked, the dagger demonstrates issues consistent with age and wear, including some running marks to the blade, desiccation of the buffer pad, loss of handle finish, and loosening of the hilt. This Reichsmarine-era dagger remains in a very fine condition.
