Description
Description
(Ein Luftwaffe Oberleutnant Mantel). An example of a Luftwaffe greatcoat belonging to an Oberleutnant, constructed of weather hardened cotton rayon blend fabric, with a traditional turned-down collar and big lapels. On the underside of the collar, by the opening, is a hidden strip of fabric that meets a grey bakelite button on the opposing side to secure the collar shut during adverse weather conditions. The shoulders are decorated with sewn-on shoulder boards, buttoned to the tunic via one pebbled nonmagnetic button each. The shoulder boards have a cardstock core, covered with bright red wool and ordained on the top with two rows parallel running piping, constructed of rolled silver aluminum bullion wire, and then decorated further with one rank pip per board - denoting the rank of Oberleutnant, measuring 38 mm (w) x 115 mm (l). On the left lapel flap, vertically oriented, are six matching nonmagnetic buttons that are met by an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the opposing side. On each side, at waist height, is a diagonal-slit pocket, secured shut via a straight-cut flap. The interior is unlined with the exception of the back-piece, which features an integrated air vent. It is marked with a tailor's label, reading “harei - DER WETTERMANN” in the interior of the coat on the outside of the right pocket fabric, as well as “100, 128” on the inside lapel. There is a 64 cm long vertical slit on the reverse of this coat, secured shut via three bakelite buttons. It measures approximately 67 cm across the shoulders (seam to seam), and with a sleeve length of 62 cm. This coat demonstrates age-appropriate, including grease splashes around the cuffs and the rear of the collar, in overall near very fine condition.
