Description
(Wehrmacht Heer Tropenhose). An example of tropical Wehrmacht (Heer) service trousers as worn by enlisted personnel in the entire Mediterranean theater of war, including Africa and Southern Italy. They are constructed of tan-coloured cotton twill, with one diagonal-slit pocket in the front, one per side, secured shut via a small bakelite button. Along the sides of these trousers is an integral belt with a magnetic blued metal buckle, along with a horizontal-slit pocket on the right side of the reverse, secured shut via a scalloped flap and a matching bakelite button. These trousers are unlined, for the exception of the waistband and pockets, which are lined with off-white cotton. Towards the rear of the waistband are a pair of straps with a matching bakelite button on the ends, for the suspension of optional suspenders, with the addition of six downward pointing magnetic metal belt keepers that are maker marked “RZM M5/312” for manufacture by Grohmann & Sohn, Würbenthal (Ostsudetenland/Eastern Sudetenland). On each cuff is a 14 cm long slit with a pair of reinforced buttonholes and a pair of 52 cm long bootstraps. They measure approximately 39 cm across the waist (seam to seam), with an inseam of 78 cm, and an overall pant length of 106 cm. A well preserved example of tropical trousers, with light fading and only minor material fatigue, in overall near extremely fine condition.
