Germany, Third Reich. A German Social Welfare Medal, on Single Mount

(Ehrenzeichen für deutsche Volkspflege an Einzelspange). Instituted 1 May 1939. (1939-1945 issue). Constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon affixed to a single mount with a horizontal pinback, the obverse bearing a raised Geneva Cross with pebbled arms, overlaid by a central German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing an inscription of “MEDAILLE FÜR DEUTSCHE VOLKSPFLEGE” (“MEDAL FOR CARE OF THE GERMAN PEOPLE”), unmarked, measuring 38.04 mm in diameter, demonstrating minor loss of finish to the medal in addition to some soiling of the ribbon, in better than very fine condition.
