Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Coastal Artillery Enlisted Ranks Overseas Cap

(Kriegsmarine Schiffchen für Mannschaften der Küstenartillerie). An extremely well-preserved Kriegsmarine Coastal Artillery Enlisted ranks overseas cap, constructed of field-grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side walls which slope downward toward the front. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a dark green rayon backer bearing a machine-embroidered golden-yellow Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 60 mm (w) x 25 mm (h). Directly below the eagle, the front features an additional insignia consisting of a dark green rayon diamond bearing a machine-embroidered tri-colour cockade, measuring 35 mm (w) x 35 mm (h) and surrounded by a golden yellow soutache. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece field-grey cotton/rayon blended cloth liner. Stamped onto the crown is a maker’s mark for Landes-Lieferungs Genossenschaft Niedersachsen (a consortium of headgear manufacturers operating in Lower Saxony), with a size mark of “56” and manufacture date of “1940”. The cap measures approximately 27 cm (l) x 11.5 cm (h) when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating no notable damage or wear, this early-war and maker-attributed example remains in an extremely fine condition.
