Germany, Kriegsmarine. A White Sailor’s Cap, Owner-Attributed Example

(Kriegsmarine Tellermütze). A  very well-preserved Kriegsmarine Tellermütze (sailor’s cap), constructed of a reinforced dark navy blue wool cap band. Wrapped around the exterior is a general-issue tally ribbon constructed of black rayon and bearing a machine-embroidered gold bullion wire inscription of “KRIEGSMARINE” in Fraktur script. Affixed to the crown is a separate cover, constructed of a white rayon-blended cloth. Pined onto the peak is a one-piece magnetic metal insignia consisting of a gilded Kriegsmarine eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, emanating from a tri-colour cockade base, measuring 48 mm (w) x 42 mm (h). A reinforced white cotton stabilizer stitched into the cap band maintains the cover’s peak, and bears a label with a red machine-embroidered owner’s name of “KARL BAUER”, along with a service number. Demonstrating only minor and age-appropriate soiling to both components, this owner-attributed example remains in a near extremely fine condition.
