Description
(Wehrpässe). A group of three Wehrpässe. Two are examples of the Second Type, each with a grey thin cardboard binding with a cover displaying a Reichsadler with its head turned to left (as viewed), wings spread open, holding in its claws an oak leaves wreath with a mobile swastika (one has had the swastika scratched off), and Gothic letters spelling Wehrpaß. One of these Wehrpaß contains 52 pages, the other 54 pages, with personal data, examination and recruitment information, in addition to reports of active military. The third Wehrpaß is of the first type, of thin grey cardboard cover displaying an eagle with folded wings and a mobile swastika in its claws, below that is the title Wehrpaß in Gothic letters in a dark green-black ink. Each inside rear cover is marked D.R.G.M. (Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster) 1 367 174" and maker marked Metten & Co., Berlin SW 61 on the back cover. Each measures approximately 10.5 cm (w) x 14.6 cm (h) and are in very fine condition.
1. The Wehrpaß was issued to Bartholomäus Gewald on 5 February 1937 in Munich. The box in the upper-right corner is presents the letter “G” written in back ink and the bottom-centre shows a very faded stamp. A portrait of Gewald in plain clothes is riveted to the second page and stamped with two diagonally opposite stamps. Data pertaining to Gewald’s personal information are on page 3, his military service on page 12, his training and military exercises in time of peace on pages 28 to 29, and his military duty during leave status on page 36. This Wehrpaß is in very fine condition. In addition, a Pass to enter Reserve-Lazarett I dated June 1945, and two certificates of discharge, also dated June 1945.
2. The Wehrpaß was issued to Johann Bienioszek on 16 August 1940 in Kattowitz. The box in the upper-right corner is presents the letter “J” written in back ink and the bottom-centre is blank. A portrait of Bienioszek in plain clothes is riveted to the second page and stamped with two diagonally opposite stamps. Data pertaining to Bienioszek’s personal information are on pages 3 to 4, his military service on pages 12 and 32, and his promotions on page 22. This Wehrpaß shows fraying along the spine and is in fair condition.
3. The Wehrpaß was issued to Friedrich Kölsch on 2 May 1938 in Frankfurt. The box in the upper-right corner is empty and the bottom-centre also empty. A portrait of Kölsch in plain clothes is riveted to the second page and stamped with two diagonally opposite stamps. Data pertaining to Gewald’s personal information are on page 3, his military service on pages 11 to 12, his training and military exercises in time of peace on pages 28 to 29, and his military duty during leave status on page 36. This Wehrpaß is in very fine condition.
