(Waffen-SS Verleihungsurkunden). A rare set of award documents to Reimar Schmidt, 4th SS Panzergrenadier Regiment “Der Führer”, consisting of:
1. A document for a Black Grade Wound Badge, constructed of off-white paper stock with black ink, anmed to Schmidt as an Unterscharführer of the Stabskompanie (Staff Company) of 4th SS Panzergrenadier Regiment “Der Führer”, issued in the field in 1943 for a single wound suffered on 28 February 1943, featuring the handwritten signature of SS-Obersturmbannführer Otto Kumm (German Cross in Gold, 29 November 1941; Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, 16 February 1942; Oak Leaves, 6 April 1943; Swords, 17 March 1945), measuring 140 mm (w) x 200 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
2. A document for a 1939 Iron Cross II Class, named to Schmidt as an Unterscharführer of the Stabskompanie (Staff Company) of 4th SS Panzergrenadier Regiment “Der Führer”, issued in the field on 20 April 1943, featuring the handwritten signature of SS-Gruppenfürher and Generalleutnant Walter Krüger (Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, 13 December 1941; Oak Leaves, 31 August 1943; Swords, 11 January 1945), measuring 139 mm (w) x 200 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: At the time of Schmidt’s recorded service with the 4th SS Panzergrenadier Regiment “Der Führer”, the unit was engaged in combat on the Eastern Front as part of the 2nd SS Panzer Division “Das Reich”. Notably, the wound for which he was decorated with the Wound Badge was likely suffered during the Third Battle of Kharkov, with Schmidt’s unit thereafter remaining on the Eastern Front to participate in the Battle of Kursk the following summer.
