In response to evolving domestic opinion, eMedals Inc has made the conscious decision to remove the presentation of German Third Reich historical artifacts from our online catalogue. For three decades, eMedals Inc has made an effort to preserve history in all its forms. As historians and researchers, we have managed sensitive articles and materials with the greatest of care and respect for their past and present social context. We acknowledge the growing sentiments put forth by the Canadian public and have taken proactive actions to address this opinion.

Description
Description
(Forstdienst Hirschfänger mit Miniatur). A rare and well-preserved Forestry Service cutlass, measuring 55.5 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 42 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains factory-original sharpening to both the tip and throat. The blade displays intricate and double-sided acid-etched designs consisting of hunting and forester imagery. The reverse ricasso is maker marked with a partially-visible logo of the firm of Clemen & Jung, Solingen, while the spine bears an additional distributor mark of “MOHR & SPEYER, BERLIN”. It sits securely within a multi-piece hilt featuring a gilded brass quillon, taking the form of a deer’s hoof, with ribbed clamshell medallion, and with a partially-intact leather buffer pad covering the seam. A hand guard emanates from the crossguard and curves to form a backstrap. Two pieces of polish off-white bone compose the handle grip, and are fastened in position with three rivets covered by stylized gilt acorns. Accompanying the cutlass is its original scabbard, constructed of a blackened leather shaft. Gilded brass fixtures are secured to the tip and throat, with the latter featuring a downward-pointing hook for the addition of a frog, itself constructed of brown leather and stitched into a loop for belt suspension. Notably, the throat fixture features a protruding slot which retains an original matching miniature knife, measuring 20 cm in total length, and featuring a 10.5 cm-long magnetic steel blade emanating from a handle constructed of identical off-white bone. Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some running marks to the blade, slight chipping to the obverse handle grip near the crossguard, and material fatigue throughout the leather elements. This unique luxury cutlass, demonstrating exceptional attention to detail, remains in an extremely fine condition.
