Description
Description
(Reichsfinanzverwaltung Dolch für Landzoll-Beamte mit Gehänge). A rare and striking Land Customs Official’s dagger, measuring 40.5 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 26.5 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains factory-original sharpening to both the edges and tip, as well as a rich cross grain throughout the length of both sides. Unmarked, the blade sits securely within a multi-piece hilt, featuring a nickel-plated alloy crossguard bearing a raised Customs-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika on the obverse, and with an intact brown leather buffer pad covering the seam. The handle consists of a wooden shaft lined on the exterior with a ribbed dark green leather grip, with the ribbing retaining an original twisted and rolled wire cord. It culminates in a rounded pommel, decorated with raised and stylized oak leaves around the outer circumference, which screws in to maintain the dagger’s structural integrity. Accompanying the dagger is its original scabbard, constructed of a magnetic metal shaft which is fully lined with a layer of dark green leather. Nickel-plated magnetic metal fixtures are secured to the tip, mid-section, and throat with side rivets. Emanating from the latter two are loops for the inclusion of a hanger, while the throat also retains a functional spring catch to firmly hold the dagger in place during storage. Faint running marks are visible to the blade, along with minor scratching of the nickel plating to the applicable fixtures, but this scarce dagger demonstrates no notable damage or issues of concern, and remains in a near mint condition.
Also accompanying the dagger is a matching hanger, consisting of an aluminum loop with two additional loops extending from the lower edge. Each accommodates a dark green doeskin strap, topped by a silver aluminum wire tresse, which is in turn trimmed with machine-embroidered dark green borders. Functional aluminum buckles adjust the lengths of the straps, and present as oval oak leaf wreathes. Each strap culminates in a functional spring clip to lock onto the scabbard’s loops. Unmarked, the hanger measures 24.5 cm in total length as presented. Demonstrating no evident damage or wear, this similarly rare accessory completes a dagger set that is impossible to upgrade, and remains in a near mint condition.
