Germany, Ordnungspolizei. A Dress Bayonet, Short Version, by ALCOSO

(Ordnungspolizei Seitengewehr). An Ordnungspolizei dress bayonet, measuring 38.5 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 25 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains factory-original sharpening to the tip and lower edge. A wide fuller runs the majority of the length of each side of the blade. The reverse ricasso is maker marked with the classic scale logo of ALCOSO, indicating production by the former firm of Alexander Coppel, Solingen. The blade sits securely within a nickel-plated metal alloy hilt which features a hooked quillon and pommel, the latter in the form of a double-sided eagle’s head, with an intact leather buffer pad covering the seam. Two pieces of staghorn compose the handle grip, and are fastened in place with dual metal rivets. A silvered feinzink Ordnungspolizei insignia is affixed to the obverse grip, measuring 22 mm (w) x 20 mm (h). Accompanying the bayonet is its original scabbard, constructed of a blackened leather shaft with nickel-plated metal fixtures secured to both the tip and throat. Issues consistent with age and wear are evident throughout, and include some running marks and loss of plating to the blade, loosening of the tang and hilt, loss of nickel plating to the scabbard fixtures with the additional loss of the throat fixture’s frog hook, and material fatigue throughout the leather shaft. This untouched and storied bayonet remains in a very fine condition.
