Germany, Wehrmacht. A Black Grade Wound Badge, First Pattern, by Otto Schickle

(Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz). Constructed of blackened brass, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath with scalloped edges, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a wide crimped hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of manufacture by Otto Schickle, Pforzheim, measuring 38.46 mm (w) x 43.40 mm (h), weighing 10.0 grams, demonstrating near-total loss of black finish with only trace amounts visible to the reverse, a first pattern badge commonly issued to Condor Legion personnel in very fine condition.
