Constructed of silvered tombak, consisting of a Maltese Cross with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse with pebbled arms and a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with a block hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch, the pinback maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “15” for Friedrich Orth, Vienna, measuring 49.32 mm (w) x 48.80 mm (h), weighing 26.9 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux black leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a silvered depiction of the award, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted black felt medal bed, unmarked, measuring 68 mm (w) x 68 mm (l) x 18 mm (h), a superb example in mint condition.
Accompanied by its award document, constructed of off-white paper stock with multi-coloured ink, named to Generalmajor Hans von Hachenburg, issued at Luftwaffe headquarters on 9 November 1941, certified by the handwritten signature of Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring, measuring 15 cm (w) x 21 cm (h), a rare example of an award document with a handwritten Göring signature reflecting the recipient’s elevated rank and accompanied by six reproduction photos of von Hachenberg at various stages of his military career, in extremely fine condition.
