(Post May 1945 manufacture - c. 1970 issue). A lot of three Third Reich exhibition medals, awards, and badges by Rudolf Souval of Vienna, consisting of:
1. An SS Long Service Award, III. Class for 8 Years. (SS-Dienstauszeichnung, III. Klasse für 8 Jahre). Constructed of base metal with a gilded-bronze finish, on a loop for suspension from its correct modern ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised swastika, overlaid by a central wreath with internal dual Sig runes, the reverse bearing a raised number “8”, overlaid by an inscription of “Für Treue Dienste in der SS” (For Faithful Service in the SS), unmarked, measuring 38.1 mm in diameter, weighing 22.85 grams.
2. A Customs and Border Protection Long Service Award (Zollgrenzschutz-Medaille). Constructed of bronzed base metal, the obverse consisting of a Cross Pattée with a central oak wreath with a German national eagle superimposed on the award, the reverse with a similar central oak wreath inscribed internally with “Für treue Dienste im Zollgrenzschutz” (For Loyal Services in Border Protection), on a swivel ring for suspension from its correct modern ribbon, measuring 42.3 mm (w) x 42.5 mm (l), weighing 32.54 grams.
3. A Fire Service Decoration, II. Class (Feuerwehr Ehrenzeichen, II. Klasse). Constructed of silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on a loop for suspension from its correct modern ribbon, consisting of a Geneva Cross with its arms joined together through the quadrants by a circular ring bearing an inscription of “Für Verdienst im Feuer-Löschwesen” (For Merit in Fire fighting), the obverse with white enameled arms overlaid by stylized red flames, bearing a central white enameled disc overlaid by a black mobile swastika, unmarked, measuring 44.2 mm (w) x 44.2 mm (l).
A fine collection of Third Reich pattern medals, awards, and badges produced after the war by Rudolf Souval, in overall better than extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Rudolf Souval was a predominant manufacturer of medals, awards, and badges during the Second World War. Following the end of the war in Europe in May 1945, Rudolf Souval continued manufacturing certain awards using wartime parts and dies for American G.I’s stationed in Europe.
