Prussia, Kingdom. A Badge of the Johannis Lodge of the Freemasons of Germany, c.1840

(Abzeichen der Johannisloge). Constructed of gilded bronze with enamels, consisting of a circular oak leaf wreath, the obverse joined together at the bottom by a banner bearing an engraved Johannis Lodge institution date of “AM 22. MAI 1840”, surrounding a blue enameled medallion bearing a raised and gilded monogram of then-Prince Regent Wilhelm (later Kaiser Wilhelm I), the reverse similarly joined together at the bottom by a banner bearing an engraved inscription of “SUB UMBRA ALARUM TUARUM” (“UNDER THE SHADOW OF THY WINGS”) and an institution date of “AM 22. MAI 1840”), with an analogous blue enameled medallion bearing a raised and gilded Prussian imperial eagle, with three swords piercing the pierce, the middle sword topped by an integral loop and suspension ring, unmarked, measuring 60 mm (w) x 90 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
