Description

(Haus und Verdienstorden von Herzog Peter Friedrich Ludwig). Issued 1838-1918. A Gold cross pattee with white enamelled arms, the obverse medallion features the crowned cypher of Peter Friedrich Ludwig on a blue enamelled field, surrounded by a red enamelled ring inscribed EIN GOTT-EIN RECHT-EIN WAHRHEIT (One God, One Righteousness, One Truth), the reverse medallion depicts the handpainted Oldenburg coat of arms, the cross is suspended from a royal crown, measures 14.5mm (w) x 23.88mm (h – inclusive of suspension ring), weighs 2.1 grams, wear to enamels in the inscription ring and on the reverse arms, glue residue on the crown, in overall near very fine condition.

Footnote: The Order was instituted by Grand Duke Paul Friedrich August of Oldenburg in commemoration of his father, Duke Peter Friedrich Louis. It was conferred in recognition of both civil and military merit.
