(Greifenorden Kreuz der Komture und Großkomtur mit Etui). Instituted 15 September 1884 by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV. (1884-1918 issue). Constructed of gilded silver with enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross with red enameled arms demonstrating a rich hatching, the obverse overlaid by a central medallion bearing a raised Mecklenburg royal Griffin, situated within a circular ring, the twelve o’clock arm topped by a pebbled fan perforated with a central eyelet retaining a suspension ring and period original neck ribbon with button fastener, unmarked, measuring 61.60 mm (w) x 64.86 mm (h), weighing 36.1 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a dark purple exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilded and crowned monogram, the interior with a padded purple satin lid liner and intact hinge cover, the former maker marked “H. ROSE, JUWELIER, SCHWERIN I/M” for the noted jeweller Heinrich Rose, with a retractable fitted purple velvet medal bed situated over a hollow void for the accommodation of the ribbon, closing with a functional spring catch with exterior stud release, flecking is visible throughout the enamels, with scratching evident to some arms, in addition to age-appropriate material fatigue of the case, a complete and maker-attributed set demonstrating jeweller-quality construction in near extremely fine condition.
