(10. Lothringisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 174 Gedenkstatue). A striking commemorative statue, constructed of a patinated bronze alloy, consisting of a detailed roaring lion in mid-stride, atop a rock formation and with an Imperial German Army standard at its feet, the obverse of the rock bearing an engraved dedication to Oberarzt Dr. (Gustav) Rommeler, from the Officer Corps of Lothringisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 174, with the sculpture affixed to a black marble base with a pale blue felt liner retained on the bottom to mitigate surface scratching, unmarked, measuring 12 cm (w) x 29 cm (l) x 24 cm (h) (inclusive of all features), demonstrating sporadic chipping to the edges of the marble base with evidence of an attempt to etch out the final two letters of Rommeler’s name on the dedication, a superb personalized example prepared for a departing rserviceman in near extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Records indicate that Gustav Rommeler was born on 18 May 1878 in Mülheim an der Mosel. His noted military service encompasses the first decade of the 20th century, including his time stationed in Metz as an Oberarzt with Lothringisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 174. He is last noted as chief of Königlich
