Saxe-Weimar and Eisenach, Grand Duchy. A Medal for Life Saving in Silver

(Medaille für Lebensrettung in Silber). Instituted 24 June 1881 by Grand Duke Carl Alexander. (1881-1918 issue). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension, the obverse bearing a central raised Saxe-Weimar and Eisance coat of arms, circumscribed by an inscription of “VIGILANDO ASCENDIMUS” (“THROUGH VIGILANCE WE ASCEND”), the reverse bearing a central raised inscription of “FÜR RETTUNG AUS LEBENSGEFAHR” (“FOR RESCUE FROM DANGER TO LIFE”), set within a wreath of rue leaves, unmarked, measuring 31.47 mm (w) x 38.71 mm (h), weighing 13.2 grams, missing its suspension loop, a scarce decoration in near extremely fine condition.
