(Taschenuhr). An interesting, wartime-attributed pocket watch, constructed of a plated non-magnetic steel casing, featuring a white dial white hour markers 1-12 in Arabic numerals, featuring hour and minute hands with an additional 60-second stopwatch situated at the lower half, retaining an original glass face and topped by a pendant, crown, and bow, featuring a retractable caseback and dust cover, the former bearing an engraved Danish-language dedication of “9' INGENIØRKOMPAGNI 167” for an Engineer Company, with the interior retaining a label bearing a handwritten inscription of “DIE UHR DES GROßVATERS (1870-1940) VOM 1. WELTKRIEG 1914-1918” (“GRANDFATHER’S (1870-1940) WATCH FROM WORLD WAR I 1914-1918”), the dust cover opening to reveal mechanisms with an inscription of “SWISS MADE” and marks indicating forwards and backwards movement, otherwise unmarked, measuring 68 mm in total diameter, minor scratching is visible throughout the case but both the watch and stopwatch appear to remain fully functional, an interesting and unusual example possibly owned by an ethnically Danish servicemen in the Imperial German Army (one of the approximately 26,000 Danish-speakers recruited from the Schleswig region) or alternatively retrieved by a German soldier from a Dane in an unknown exchange, in near extremely fine condition.
