Germany, Imperial. A Stirnpanzer, Battle-Damaged Example

(Stirnpanzer). A rare Stirnpanzer (forehead armour), constructed of magnetic iron with a curvature fitted to the M1916, M1917, and M1918 Stahlhelme, retaining some of its original slate-grey paint, flanked on each side by mounting brackets to accommodate an underlying helmet’s lugs, with additional eyelets for the use of a strap, unmarked, measuring 24 cm (w) x 19 cm (h), demonstrating a large and irregular chip to the upper edge consistent with combat damage, with some loss of paint and surface oxidation throughout, a rare example demonstrating evidence of battlefield wear in very fine condition.
