(Ordensschalle). An interesting medal bar for a First World War combatant featuring six decorations, including:
1. A 1914 Iron Cross II Class, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o'clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, without visible marks, measuring 42.28 mm (w) x 46.47 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
2. An Austrian Military Merit Medal, Silver Grade, constructed of a silver alloy, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised and rightward-facing profile of Emperor Franz Joseph, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse bearing a central wreathed inscription of “SIGNUM LAUDIS” (“SIGN OF PRAISE”), measuring 32.05 mm (w) x 53.50 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
3. An Austrian Military Merit Medal, Bronze Grade, constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised and rightward-facing profile of Emperor Franz Joseph, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse bearing a central wreathed inscription of “SIGNUM LAUDIS” (“SIGN OF PRAISE”), measuring 30.76 mm (w) x 50.32 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
4. A Karl Troop Cross, constructed of silvered zink, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 29.30 mm (w) x 32.35 mm (h), demonstrating loss of finish throughout, in very fine condition.
5. An Austrian War Commemorative Medal, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 36.12 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.
6. An Romanian Order of the Crown, Knight’s Cross, constructed of silver with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross with red enameled arms trimmed with white borders, joined through the quadrants by monograms of King Carol I, the obverse bearing a central red enameled medallion overlaid by a silver crown, situated within a white enameled ring bearing a silvered inscription of “PRIM NOI INSINE” (“BY OURSELVES”) with a date of “14. MARTIE 1881”, unmarked, measuring 41.13 mm (w) x 42.41 mm (h), the reverse medallion is missing, in very fine condition.
All suspended from a 125 mm-long bar with a magnetic metal core, horizontal pinback, and green wool liner, in extremely fine condition.
