In white porcelain, a decorative cup featuring a gilt design with textured blue dots and rose motifs and one side and hand painted black 1914 Iron Cross on the other, the lip is gilded, along with the handle and rim of the base, the bottom bears the green makers mark Rosenthal Selb-Bavaria, with a gilt mark in a shield shape Erinnerung aus großer Zeit 1914/15, measures 98mm (w – inclusive of handle) x 104mm (h), light wear to gilt on handle, loss of paint to Iron cross, no chips or cracks in extremely fine condition.
The saucer in white porcelain with gilt and light blue decorations, depicting a rose pattern with a thin chain around the exterior rim, the bottom is marked with the green makers mark Rosenthal Selb-Bavaria, measures 37mm (diameter), no chips or cracking, in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Phillip Rosenthal began operating in the porcelain industry in 1884 in Erkersreuth, near Bavarian Selb. In 1910 and 1920, artistic ceramic divisions were opened. The company was lost during the second world war, as Philip was forced to leave Germany. His son, also named Philip, returned to Germany and succeeded in regaining control of the company in 1950. In 2000, the company became part of Hutschenreuther and is now traded as Rosenthal GmbH.
