Germany, Imperial. A War Wounded Recreational Park Commemorative Stein

 (Erholungspark für Kriegsbeschädigte Erinnerungskrug). A unique commemorative stein, constructed of glazed white earthenware, the exterior bearing a hand-painted image featuring a wounded German soldier greeting a civilian and dog in a park, flanked on each side by detailed battle scenes and set within an oak leaf wreath, topped by an inscription of “ERHOLUNGSPARK FÜR KRIEGSBESCHÄDIGTE” (“RECREATIONAL PARK FOR WAR WOUNDED”), with a rounded and protruding handle topped by a pewter lid set on a functional swivel hinge with a thumb grip, flanked by an etched volume mark of “½ L.” for a half litre, the base bearing partially-legible maker marks, measuring 96 mm (w) (exclusive of handle) x 160 mm (h) (exclusive of thumb grip), with moderate loss of paint evident in addition to a chip to the lower left of the main illustration near the base, in very fine condition.
