Europe. Four Commander Neck Ribbons

Germany, Baden. Military Karl-Friedrich Merit Order, Commander's Neck Ribbon; (Militärischer Karl Friedrich Verdienstorden). Instituted in 1807. A mid 20th Century ribbon fabricated from a cotton-silk blend, with a wide pinkish-red stripe flanked by wide dark yellow stripes on either side, the edges trimmed in narrow white stripes, pinkish-red ties sewn in place on either end, measuring 65 mm wide x 445 mm in length, vibrant colours, intact stitching, extremely fine. Vatican. Order of Pope Pius IX (AKA Order of Pius), II Class Commander Neck Ribbon; (Ordo Pianus or Ordine Piano). Instituted in 1847. A period ribbon fabricated from silk, incorporating a decorative moiré pattern, with a central royal blue field flanked by red, royal blue and red stripes on either side, a single ribbon tie sewn in place at either end, measuring 50 mm wide x 780 mm in length, vibrant colours, intact stitching, lightly soiled, near extremely fine. Italy, Kingdom. Two Military Order of Savoy, III Class Commander Neck Ribbons; (Ordine Militare di Savoia). Instituted in 1815. First ribbon is fabricated from silk, incorporating a decorative moiré pattern, with a central red stripe flanked by wide royal blue stripes on either side, with single hook and eye attachments at either end, measuring 48 mm wide x 510 mm in length. Second ribbon is a partial neck ribbon, having been severed in the middle, fabricated from silk, incorporating a decorative moiré pattern, with a central salmon-coloured stripe flanked by wide navy blue stripes on either side, the hook remaining intact at one end, measuring 52 mm wide x 310 mm in length. Vibrant colours, extremely fine and very fine, respectively.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
