Description
(Dannebrogordenen). Instituted in 1671 by Christian V. An Order of Dannebrog, Grand Cross Set, Margrethe II Issue.
Breast Star. A seven-pointed radiant silver star, the obverse with a silver gilt oblong Latin Cross, exhibiting finely enamelled white arms with red borders, the obverse centre presents the royal cipher of Christian V, with the inscription GUD OG KONGEN (GOD AND THE KIND) on its arms, the reverse with four threaded nuts where the cross on the obverse is secured to the star, with a barrel hinge, dual “split” vertical pinback and centrally opening round wire catch, marked “925S” for silver content and “AM” for manufacture by Anton Michelsen, measuring 86.1 mm (w) x 79.5 mm (l); extremely fine.
Sash Badge. An oblong Latin Cross constructed of gilded silver with white enameled arms with red enameled borders, with gilded Royal crowns in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse center inscribed with the crowned Royal Cypher of Christian 5th, with the additional inscription of GUD OG KONGEN (GOD AND THE KIND) on its arms, the reverse inscribed with the crowned Royal cyphers of Valdemar II Sejr, Christian V, and Frederick VI, as well as the years 1219, 1671,1808, surmounted by the royal cipher of Margrethe II crowned with the distinctive Danish royal crown, with an elongated loop for suspension from its correct modern replacement sash ribbon, measuring 41.4 mm (w) x 85.00 mm (h), marked on ring “925S” for silver content and “AM”, with enamel repair to 6 o'clock arm, on correct sash, extremely fine as a set.
Housed in original case of issue, wooden framed, red leather covered, Anton Michelsen maker on interior lid, very fine.
