Instituted 12 October 1671 by Christian V. (1746-1766 issue). An early badge and typical quality for the period, in silver, consisting of a Latin Cross with red and white enameled arms, the obverse with 14 glass jewels, the reverse with a central monogram of Frederick V topped by a royal crown, on loop with suspension ring, unmarked however exhibiting the manufacturing characteristics of the Danish royal goldsmith Poul (Paul) Kurtz, measuring 45.32 mm (w) x 79.08 mm (h), weighing 38.4, chipping and cracking of enamels evident, otherwise in very fine condition.
Footnote: Until 1808, membership in the Order of the Dannebrog was highly exclusive and limited to 50 individuals of royal and noble status known as “White Knights”.
