Description
Description
A very well-preserved felt helmet used by police personnel of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, constructed of a pressed field-grey composite fibre. A silvered bronze crossbar with raised linden leaf designs extends lengthwise across the crown, secured in place with magnetic metal rivets. The crossbar connects to an additional band of identical construction and composition which circumscribes the outer rim. An insignia is fastened to the crossbar at the peak, consisting of a raised and finely-detailed coat of arms of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, measuring 75 mm (w) x 75 mm (h). The helmet is also flanked on each side by dual ventilation holes, all reinforced with magnetic metal grommets. Affixed to the helmet just underneath the ventilation are protruding lion’s head medallions which formerly secured in place a chain link chinstrap, which has since been lost. The rim is fully lined by a layer of silvered bronze for a smooth reinforced edge. The interior is fully surrounded by a brown leather sweatband, held in place by a row of machine stitching, and measuring 45 mm in width. The helmet is fully unmarked and measures 210 mm (w) x 295 mm (l) x 160 mm (h). In addition to the missing chinstrap, there is some loss of finish evident to the bronze features, and minor, sporadic patches of material fatigue to the shell. It is in an overall better than very fine condition.
