Description

A large size document (21cm x 33cm), for the award of Iron Trefoil 2nd Class, awarded to German Officer, Oreleutnant (Batterieführer bei Sturm-Gesch. Abt.177) Herwart Kampffmeyer, "for brave and exemplary conduct during the battles around Don as a commander of the artillery unit, especially on July 28, 1942, when South of Kolchos in short time 9 Russian heavy armored units were destroyed; as a result, this Officer contributed to the successful rejection of the attack of far superior enemy against Croatian 369th Infantry Regiment."

Dated in Zagreb, 9. September 1942; original signature in ink by Vojskovodja Kvaternik on the left; and on the right original signature in ink by the Head of the Independent State of Croatia, A. Pavelić. Document is in very fine condition.
