Bulgaria, Kingdom. An Order of Saint Alexander, Grand Cross Star with Swords, by Rothe

(Орден "Свети Александър). Instituted 25 December 1881. Military Division. In silver with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of an eight-pointed radiant star, the obverse with a central red enameled applique bearing the name of the order in gold Cyrillic lettering, surrounded by a ring of white enamel with the order motto of “СЪ НАМИ БОГЪ” (“GOD WITH US”) in gilt Cyrillic lettering, with gilded laurel leaf branches at the bottom, crossed swords sit atop the 12 o’clock arm denoting military division, the reverse with a barrel hinge and narrow banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, marked on reverse by C.ROTHE and WIEN, denoting manufacture by Rothe, and marked with a silver swan punch mark denoting silver composition and importation from a country without trading contract to France since 1893, measuring 86.7 mm (w) x 87.2 mm (h), weighing 59.8 grams, three small vertical chips in the central red enamels, light tarnish on the arms, otherwise better than very fine.
