Description

(Орден "Свети Александър"). Instituted in 1881. Type II (1908-1944). Military Division. In silver gilt, a white enamelled cross with central cross swords piercing the medallion which bears a red disc inscribed СВ. АЛЕКСАНДЪР and СБ. НАМИ БОГЪ in the white enamel surround, the reverse is inscribed ВЪ 19 ФЕВРАЛЖ 1878, the cross is surmounted by a princely crown with internal red enamel cap, measures 51.9 mm (w) x 93.4 mm (h), worn on a original red neck ribbon, enamels intact, light gilt wear, in extremely fine condition.

Footnote: In 1886 crossed swords were added to the Order awards to reward wartime merit, and courageous acts rendered in peacetime. The crossed swords for wartime merit were added through the centre of the cross, while the swords for peacetime courage were added to the surmounting suspension ring.
