Bulgaria, Kingdom. An Observer’s Badge, German-Made Example

Constructed of gilded and silvered brass with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a ribbon defaced by a red enameled shield bearing a gilded lion rampant, topped by a gilded Bulgarian imperial crown, surrounding a central gilt and enameled sunrise, in turn overlaid by a gilded Bulgarian national eagle preparing to take flight, the reverse topped by a stabilizer and with four rivets securing the obverse features in position, with a central threaded screw post retaining an original backplate, the latter bearing a distributor’s mark of “FRIEDRICH SEDLATZEK, BERLIN S.W. 68, FRIEDRICHSTR. 205”, measuring 37.25 mm (w) x 58.27 mm (h), weighing 26.6 grams, a German-made example (possibly issued to a Luftwaffe serviceman for distinction on the Eastern Front at the behest of Bulgarian authorities) in extremely fine condition.
