(Ordre de Léopold / Leopoldsorde). Instituted in 1832. Civil Division, Type I (1832-1951). In silver with red, black, white and green enamels, both centrepieces in Gold, unmarked, monogram "LL RR" on the reverse centrepiece, measuring 41.5 mm (w) x 67.7 mm (h) inclusive of its crown and laterally-pierced ball suspension, chipping evident in the green enamels on the leafing between the arms at 9 and 12 o'clock on the obverse, otherwise, the enamels are intact, original ribbon, near extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, forest green patterned exterior, faded text on the manufacturer's label on the bottom, the lid bearing the monogram of King Leopold II in gold-coloured ink, inside lid lined in beige cloth and padded, recessed medal bed in white felt, hook closure, measuring 64.3 mm (w) x 106.8 mm (h) x 21.5 mm (d), edge wear evident on the exterior, light discolouration on the medal bed, case better than very fine.
Footnote: The Order of Leopold I was instituted on July 11, 1832. It was awarded for exemplary bravery in war and especially distinguished service to the Belgian state, in five grades: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight, in Civil, Military and Maritime Divisions.
