In response to evolving domestic opinion, eMedals Inc has made the conscious decision to remove the presentation of German Third Reich historical artifacts from our online catalogue. For three decades, eMedals Inc has made an effort to preserve history in all its forms. As historians and researchers, we have managed sensitive articles and materials with the greatest of care and respect for their past and present social context. We acknowledge the growing sentiments put forth by the Canadian public and have taken proactive actions to address this opinion.

Description
Description
(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 II. Klasse mit Etui). Reinstituted 5 August 1914 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. (1914-1918 issue). A unique and desirable II Class iron cross to Austrian recipient, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension from an original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse is plain with the inscription DIE OFFIZIERE DER NACHRICHTENABTEILUNG DES OOK-KRIEG GEGEN RUSSLAND (engraved and black enamelled), measures 43.01 mm (w) x 47.5 mm (h), weighs 21.63 grams including ribbon,
Accompanied by a private presentation case in supple brown leather, lid impressed Die Offiziere der Nachrictenabteilung des OOK. Krieg gegen Russland., in gilt, interior in silk with maker mark ROTHE on the lid with a velvet fitted medal bed, measures 85 mm (w) x 145 mm (l) x 30 mm (d), delicate engravings on the hinges and clasp, all functional, light wear to exterior, in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: During the First War, the OOK (often referring to the Operierende Oberkommando or "Operational High Command") served as a transitional staff body during the initial mobilization phase. Prior to the full activation of the AOK (Armeeoberkommando), which functioned as the permanent wartime Army High Command for field armies, the OOK managed the immediate shift from peacetime administration to active combat operations. While the AOK became the standardized command center for land forces throughout the war, the OOK's historical significance lies in its role as the early operational skeleton that bridged the gap between peacetime readiness and the outbreak of total war.
