Austria, Imperial. An 1873 War Medal in Case

Instituted December 2, 1873. In bronze, the obverse FRANZ JOSEPH I. KAISER V. ÖSTERREICH KÖNIG V.BÖHMEN ETC.APOST. KG V.UNGARN, the reverse medallion inscribed 2. DECEMBER 1873, measures 36.2 mm (w) x 40.2 mm (h), worn on original trifold ribbon with thin thread for hanging, light wear, very fine. Accompanied by a small silver cross with a central portrait of a soldier, the 6 o’clock arm is engraved 1913, reverse marked A.M, measures 28 mm (w) x 32 mm, light wear, small crack in obverse medallion portrait, very fine. 

Contained in a case of issue, red leatherette exterior with Austrian coat of arms on the lid, the interior is marked ROTHE denoting manufacturer, black velvet medalbed, measures 62 mm (w) x 108 mm (h) x 20 mm (d), discoloured exterior, light wear, functional hinge and clasp, in extremely fine condition.
