Austria, Empire. An Order of the Iron Crown, II. Class with War Decoration, by Rothe & Neffe, c.1970

(Orden der Eisernen Krone). Instituted January 1st, 1816. (c. 1970 issue). A very fine quality example of this award, constructed of gilded bronze and multi-coloured enamels, consisting of the Lombard Iron Crown presenting green, red and white-enamelled jewels, on which rests the two-headed Austrian eagle with sword and orb, with a blue enamelled central shield showing on the obverse the imperial initial F and on the reverse the year 1815, dual green enameled laurel stems acting as a War Decoration, attached to the top of the award is a hollow swivel Royal Crown with red enameled accents, suspended from its shortened period original neck ribbon, unmarked but displaying the typical manufacturing characteristics of Rothe & Neffe in Vienna, measuring 37.1 mm (w) x 66.0 mm (l), weighing 32.93 grams, a fine example in extremely fine condition.
