(Malteserorden; Malteserorden von Böhmen). In silver gilt with white enamels, the trophy of arms with a four-piece construction, in silver gilt with red and white enamels, unmarked, measuring 52.2 mm (w) x 130 mm (h) inclusive of its crown and trophy of arms suspension, extensive chipping evident in the white enamels at the junction of the four arms on both sides, without ribbon as issued, fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, maroon thatched exterior, inside lid in white satin and padded, the base housing a medal bed in violet felt, recessed for the badge and slotted for the trophy of arms suspension, measuring 80 mm (w) x 158 mm (h) x 30.5 mm (d), exhibiting wear and soiling on the exterior, the covering coming off on the lid at the hinged end, wear evident in the fabric overlying the hinged area, case near fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Knights of Malta operated in Austria as early as the Twelfth Century. The Austrian Order was charged with aiding the sick, diseased, disabled, refugees, and elderly of the world. The Order of the Knights of Malta within Imperial Austria is also known as the Order of the Knights of Malta of Bohemia.
