Between 1939 and late 1941, over 8,800 Americans initially joined the RCAF. After Pearl Harbor, roughly 3,800 transferred to U.S. forces (USAAF) including the 8th Air Force. Offered is a pilots grouping to such an individual. The group includes many items from both his time in the RCAF and his subsequent service in the USAAF. Included is the following:
1. An Royal Canadian Air Force Officer's Battle Blouse, in standard blue wool, five button with single replacement, dress Pilot wing above left breast pocket (8cm), with U.S.A. shoulder flashes, interior label for S.L.a.M. Feathers LTD. 1944, Size No.4, with extensive wear to both interior and exterior consistent with wartime use;
2. US Army Air Force AN-H-15 soft flight helmet, with blue stamped air force symbol at center with "OLEY" above, name of pilot is written in bery light black ink on visor (illegible), interior showing wear, especially on right ear cover;
3. US Military 1943 Sears Saddlery Co Leather Gun Holster with strap;
4. Handmade 8th Air Force handkerchief with "Greetings from England";
5. Emergency Ration Tin with Insignia including British made 8th Air Force patch; USAAF Cap Badge, in bronze; USAAF Pilot Wings, in sterling silver; matching set of RCAF American Volunteer/Service patches; RCAF Cap Visor Cap Badge; RCAF Side cap cap badge; a pleasing 9 feather padded RCAF pilot wings; 9 feather unissued standard pilot wing;
Overall, a fine and never to market early pilots grouping, very fine.
