Description
(Orden Svetog Save). Instituted in 1883. Type II (1883-1903). In silver, a beautiful order of St. Sava, a Maltese cross in white and blue enamels with ball finials, small double headed crowned eagles with shields in each quadrant, the obverse medallion shows distinctive iconography of St. Sava, surrounded by inscription in blue enamel, reverse oval centerpiece shows date 1883 within a blue enamelled outer circlet decorated with golden laurel wreath, a well carved surmounting crown, marked with a swan punch mark denoting silver manufacture from countries without a trade contract with France since 1893, measures 49.8 mm (w) x 96.5 mm (h), original neck ribbon, enamels intact, light gilt wear, extremely fine condition.
Contained in original case of issue, Serbian coat of arms on the lid with III denoting third class, lid marked Arthus Bertrand, black velvet medalbed, measures 92 mm (w) x 165 mm (h) x 33 mm (d), hinges slightly loose, silk over hinge is ripped, exterior scuffed and scratched, catch functional, near very fine.
