Germany, Wehrmacht. A Winter Field Cap

(Wehrmacht Wintefellmütze). An unusual and well-preserved Wehrmacht/SS winter field cap, constructed of a dark blue dyed calf skin base, surrounded by low-set side walls and ear flaps lined in white wool, the latter rolling up and fastening in place over the crown with a functional metal snap button, the interior fully lined in identical wool, unmarked, measuring 22 cm (w) x 26 cm (l) x 16 cm (h) as configured for wear, demonstrating minor soiling and material fatigue, an interesting example of an unofficial winter cap worn by Wehrmacht and SS personnel and loosely modelled after the Russian ushanka, in near extremely fine condition.
