Germany, Wehrmacht. A Panzer Assault Badge, Bronze Grade, Oval Crimp Variant by Wilhelm Deumer

(Panzerkampfabzeichen in Bronze). Constructed of bronzed zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, surrounding a Panzer IV rolling over grassy terrain, with its left tread extending beyond the edge of the wreath, the reverse with a crimped hinge set into an oval base and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch similarly emanating from an oval base, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of manufacture by Wilhelm Deumer, Lüdenscheid, measuring 41.86 mm (w) x 60.42 mm (h), weighing 32.9 grams, demonstrating near-total loss of bronze finish to the base metal, in addition to erasure of the eagle’s head representing either a factory flaw of deliberate filing-down by the recipient of subsequent owner, in very fine condition.
