Germany, SS. A Waffen-SS Italian Camouflage Smock for an SS-Obersturmführer

(Waffen-SS Tarnhemd in italienischem Tarnmuster für einen SS-Obersturmführer). A well-preserved Waffen-SS smock, constructed of a weather-hardened cotton duck cloth. The exterior is dyed in a classic Italian M29 Telo mimetico camouflage, with a mottle consisting of irregular splotches of light green, dark green, and dark brown. A vertical slit descending from the collar features reinforced eyelets which retain an original drawstring for secure closure. The waistband and sleeve cuffs have elasticized bands to mitigate exposure to the elements. Stitched onto the upper left arm is a rank insignia consisting of a rectangular black cloth base bearing two green bars topped by a pair of oak leaves, indicating a rank of SS-Obersturmführer. Unmarked, the smock measures approximately 56 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 58 cm, and an overall length of 70. Demonstrating only minor soiling and material fatigue, this classic example of Waffen-SS field gear, made from requisitioned Italian cloth, remains in a near extremely fine condition.
