Germany, Luftwaffe. A Mint Observer’s Badge, with Case, by Wilhelm Deumer

(Beobachterabzeichen mit Etui). Constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the eagle in position, with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting  a round wire catch, maker marked “W. DEUMER, LÜDENSCHEID”, measuring 53.53 mm (w) x 52.31 mm (h), weighing 42.4 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a pressed card stock frame with a dark blue leatherette exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilt inscription of “BEOBACHTERABZ.”, the interior with a padded blue rayon lid liner and slotted dark blue felt medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 75 mm (w) x 80 mm (l) x 25 mm (h), demonstrating minor material fatigue to the interior of the case, a striking early badge in near mint condition.
