Description
Description
The Wehrpaß is of the first type. It is dated to February 15, 1937. Measuring 104x145mm, better than very fine condition with light scuffing and creasing. The health book (Gesundheitsbuch) measures 142x206mm, near extremely fine condition with light scuffing and minimal creasing.
Footnote: Georg Messingschlager was born on October 1, 1898 in Schlaifhausen near Forchheim (northern Bavaria). During the First War, he served in Infantry Regiment 19 from November 24, 1916 to November 1, 1918. Messingschlager was first mustered by the Wehrmacht in 1937, but only drafted in October of 1944. He was deemed conditionally fit for service, due to abnormal bending or deformation of the thorax. Messingschlager was placed in the Landesschützen Replacement Battalion II/13 in Würzburg, and two weeks later was redeployed to the Technical Replacement and Training Battalion No. 2. On November 1, 1944 Messingschlager was promoted to Gefreiter (Lance Corporal). He was mustered again on November 30, again being found conditionally fit for service due to his thorax condition, as well as diseases of the teeth, gums, and jaws. However, on January 12, 1945 Messingschlager was mustered fit for service and placed in the 3rd Company of Landesschützen Battalion 847, pointing towards the need for soldiers at this late stage of the war, and in disregard of their physical condition.
