Germany, Heer. A Gebirgsjäger Commemorative Service Ring, with Letters and Insignia, to Oberleutnant Otto Hierholzer
(Heer Gebirgsjäger Fingerring mit Briefe und Insignien). A superb lot of items from the estate of Heer Gebirgsjäger Oberleutnant Otto Hierholzer, including:
1. A commemorative service ring, constructed of a silvered alloy, the exterior featuring an oval medallion bearing a raised edelweiss on a blackened background, unmarked, corresponding to a men’s size 12, weighing 7.1 grams, demonstrating some tarnishing throughout, a striking and privately-purchased example demonstrating Hierholzer’s pride of service in extremely fine condition.
2. Am Gebirgsjäger EM/NCO’s sleeve insignia, constructed of dark green wool, the obverse bearing a machine-embroidered multi-coloured edelweiss situated within a knotted border topped by a piton, unmarked, measuring 55 mm (w) x 65 mm (h), demonstrating mothing throughout, a carefully uniform-removed example in fair condition.
3. A large period photograph depicting Hierholzer on his wedding day, wearing a Heer dress uniform with Gebirgsjäger insignia and aiguillette clearly visible, flanked by his bride Margot and exchanging rings before a clergyman, the reverse bearing a handwritten inscription indicating that the image was captured on 12 August 1943 and that Hierholzer served with Gebirgs-Jäger-Regiment 99, measuring 23.5 cm (w) x 17.5 cm (h), in extremely fine condition.
4. A lot of eight letters and Reichspost telegrams, supplemented by two postcards, extending best wishes to the Hierholzers for their wedding day, in overall extremely fine condition.
