Germany, DRK. An Active Membership Badge, Karlsruhe District, by Alfred Stübbe

(Deutsche Rotes Kreuz Schwesternschaft Abzeichen). Constructed of bronze with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of a white disc overlaid by a red Geneva Cross, in turn topped by a DRK-style German national eagle, situated within a black enameled border bearing a gilt inscription of “DEUTSCHES ROTES KREUZ SCHWESTERNSCHAFT” (“GERMAN RED CROSS SISTERHOOD”), the reverse with a narrow barrel hinge and horizontal pinback meeting a round wire catch, stamped with a district mark of “KARLSRUHE” and membership number of “798”, maker marked “A. STÜBBE, BERLIN” for the firm of Alfred Stübbe, measuring 42 mm in diameter, demonstrating some flecking and fine cracking to the enamels with loss of finish to the base metal, in very fine condition.
