(Orden Máximo Gómez I Clase and Orden Máximo Gómez II Clase), both four-piece construction, each measuring 44,5 mm in diameter, the first class weighing 32,5 grams and the second class 32 grams, silvered and gilt metal with enamelled centre medallions bearing the portrait of General Máximo Gómez, green enamel ring on the first class and dark green on the second, both with the inscription “Máximo Gómez,” reverse displaying the Cuban national coat of arms circumscribed “Republica de Cuba / Consejo de Estado,” horizontal pinback fasteners with visible glue remnants around the attachment area, the second class ribbon bar possibly mismatched, overall very fine.
Footnotes: Instituted by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba on 10 October 1976, the Orden Máximo Gómez commemorates General Máximo Gómez Báez (1836–1905), Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban Liberation Army during the wars of independence. It is awarded in two classes to members of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces and foreign military personnel for distinguished service in command, leadership, and the strengthening of Cuba’s defence capability. The first class is worn before the second class in order of precedence.
