Description
(金鵄勲章 Kinshi Kunshō). Instituted on 12 February 1890 by Emperor Meiji. In silver gilt, a multi coloured enamelled golden kite, superimposed on an eight point red enamel star with a total of 32 red enamelled rays, the kite is super imposed by a gilt eagle denoting fifth class, the reverse is plain with four large rivets, measures 46.25mm (w) x 49.90 mm (h- inclusive of ball suspension), weighs 30.1 grams (including ribbon), worn on original ribbon, small enamel chip in 12 o’clock red ray, small enamel cracks throughout star but kite enamel is excellently preserved, overall in very fine condition.
Footnote: This Order was conferred upon military personnel of the Imperial Army and Navy in recognition of exceptional bravery and leadership during battle. It may be awarded posthumously. This Order was discontinued in 1947. The V Class has a gilt eagle.
