(ព្រះរាជបញ្ជារបស់សាហាមេត្រេយ / preahreach banhchea robsa sa ha me tre y). Instituted in 1995. Grand Cross Badge: five-piece construction, in plated bronze with green lacquer, maker marked on the reverse of the crown suspension, measuring 58 mm (w) x 90.8 mm (h) inclusive of its crown suspension, on its full-length original sash; and Breast Star: four-piece construction, in plated bronze with green lacquer, unmarked, measuring 89.3 mm (w) x 88.5 (h), horizontal pinback. Intact lacquers, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Royal Order of Sahametrei was instituted on October 5, 1995, based on the original Order of 1948-1970, that had been established on September 9, 1948, before the Kingdom gave way to the Khmer Republic. The Kingdom itself was re-established in 1993. The Order of 1948-1970 was originally awarded to mark the Royal Crusade and the return of independence in 1953, the two triumphs of King Sihanouk, originally in three grades, that was expanded to five grades in 1950: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight. This current post-1993 Order is awarded to diplomats and other foreigners for special services or acts of friendship to the Kingdom of Cambodia, in five grades: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight.
